The task

The successful “World of Material Handling” (WOMH) format entered its third edition this year. Under the motto “Simplexity. The Art of Smart Solutions.” trade visitors experience how intralogistics processes can be made more efficient, safer and faster from today until beyond 2020. The concept for the innovative event format consisting of an exhibition, event arena, forums and workshops was once again developed by the Munich-based agency Fine Arts. We were responsible for the set construction on the 13,000 square meter event area on the Maimarkt grounds in Mannheim.

The Artlife solution

The centerpiece of the event was the arena for plenary and presentation events. Grandstand-like seating platforms including galleries provided space for 650 people around the central area. Around the arena, live demos showed typical processes in internal logistics in action. Analogous to the four live demos, individually designed theme islands in the corner areas of the hall conveyed the solution fields of automation, energy systems, digitalization and safety.

Flying cubes under the hall ceiling refer to the competence areas and complete the event architecture. The necessary supporting structures and special solutions in the arena area, together with the heavy Linde vehicles, resulted in a high overall load. For the Maimarkthalle, which has a basement in this area, separate structural calculations and plans were drawn up for the load distribution of the emerging forces on the ceiling structure of the hall basement.
