The task

A monumental structure is to be created for the Knauf in-house exhibition on the factory premises in Iphofen. The work is to be created as exclusively as possible with Knauf materials and show as many application examples as possible.

The Artlife solution

A Möbius band based on a welded steel band, studded with plasterboard and finished with Knauf products, was designed to inspire visitors. The challenge was to give the impression that this was a lightweight, floating band. Artlife’s designers were therefore challenged to keep the structure as flat as possible. To this end, Artlife developed a skeleton of steel tubing and frames, only ten centimeters flat, which gave the partially accessible Möbius strip its stability and arched shape. Despite the structural complexity, limited assembly times and a springy tent floor that made clean joints almost impossible, the 2.50-meter-wide and 80-meter-long Knauf Möbius strip was a complete success. So it was decided at short notice to present the belt also at the leading trade fair “Color” in Cologne.
